Jason David Frank Turns Pro, Wants In Strikeforce (News)
“I didn’t think a lot of stuff was going to happen so fast, but I got some fights under my belt, got the movie and all that stuff, and I don’t know, just training a lot with my training partners and my coach Rocky Long, and stuff like that. I just think I decided to turn pro,” Frank told MMAWeekly Radio recently.
The amateur fights provided him some needed time in the cage to see how he would adapt, and with a perfect 4-0 record, he believes it was the right time to start making it count for something.
“To really make it legit, and start making it count,” Frank explained about why he was turning pro. “We were going to do one more amateur, but what’s the difference? Four amateur fights, five, all the same thing. Now I’m turning pro, get paid to do it, and it’s not just about the money, but it’s about doing it the right way.”
The right way includes fighting for promoters that want him on their show, and people he believes in, while also taking a step up in competition from the amateur ranks.

Zuffa Sues Bellator Over Infringed Contract Distribution (News)

LAS VEGAS – Zuffa LLC, the parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and World Extreme Cagefighting, has filed suit against Ken Pavia, one of the sport’s most prominent fighter agents, alleging Pavia passed along trade secrets and confidential Zuffa documents to rival mixed martial arts promotion Bellator.
The suit alleges that Bellator used the documents to help run its business.
Pavia is the founder of MMA Agents and represents in excess of 50 fighters, more than 40 of whom are now or have been in the past under contract to Zuffa.
Bellator, which is a co-defendant, is a fledgling MMA promotional company that has earned rave reviews for the entertaining fights it made during its first two seasons, which were broadcast initially on ESPN Deportes and then on FOX Sports Net, among other networks.
According to the suit, filed Wednesday in Clark County District Court, Pavia delivered confidential contracts, including fighter agreements, to Bellator after being asked to do so in a July 4 email to him from Bellator founder Bjorn Rebney.
Rothwell Undergoes Surgery – Is out 9 Months (News)

“It’s just one of those things where you hurt yourself, and you hear it, and you feel it, and you know it’s going to suck later,” Rothwell today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) from his home in Kenosha, Wis., where he is recovering. “I was (in the mindset) that nothing was going to stop me from fighting.”
Rothwell began physical therapy on Wednesday and said doctors told him he can begin strength training in three months. He also underwent surgery recently for a deviated septum, which came courtesy of a high kick he took from Yvel late in the first round.
“The average for something like this is six months to a year (of recovery), but [doctors] think that I’m going to be on the lower end of it,” he said.
The former IFL fighter said he didn’t want to speak about his injuries that night because the responsibility for the fight’s outcome was ultimately his. He didn’t want to speak about it at all, but he wanted to set the record straight when word of his procedure recently leaked out on the Internet.

Porn Machine Writes a Blog at Prison – Week 1

You might recall we did a number of posts about the man legally known as War Machine (he started doing porn as well, so naturally I called him Porn Machine) going to jail, and having his last fight last week before being booked. Well, he’s decided to keep all his fans up-to-date while he’s out by writing a blog at prison.
What’s up guys!? I’m gonna do a weekly blog for this year while I’m locked up. Just want to keep y’all posted and give you some insight on what it’s like here for me. When I first got here I was told I was gonna be kept in segregation to pretect myself since I’m a “celebrity.” I told them NO WAY! 23 hours a day lockdown? FUCK THAT! So they stuck me in the “mainline.” They classified me a 5 on a scale 1-6 so I’m with the big dogs. Everyone here has been to prison. Few guys in my unit are murderers waiting to be shipped out to prison for life. Funny, kinda odd, but they are the most friendly of the bunch… Most intelligent too. Hardest thing about this place is finding people you can have a decent conversation with.
So when you first get here you learn the rules, jail politics. You got the Whites, the Mexicans, and the Blacks + others. Whites and Mex share tables for recreation but you only eat show at your designated race’s table. You never sit at the Blacks table and vice-versa, but you can talk to them here in County Jail. If a Mex or White fights a Black, all the Mex and Whites are required to jump in. One on one fights are only allowed against your own race and take place in an empty cell. I think it’s dumb. I’m not trying to fight anyone and can care less about who fights who. I hope no big rumbles happen… I can’t afford more trouble. But if you don’t help, you get jumped afterwards. Maybe I’ll just throw body shots and leg kicks so I don’t hurt anyone… Anyway so far all is well.
I’m bored a lot, just been reading and working out to stay busy. All the guys here are cool to me, I get a lot of questions about fighting. Seems everyone wants to learn some “moves.” I wish we could train here, would make it way more fun… lol. So yeah, anyway I don’t see anyone fucking with ME… Only way BS goes down is if I get dragged into someone elses lame drama. Well that is that! Week 1 in a nut shell. Look forward to keeping you guys updated. Can’t wait to get out and fight for all my fans again! Can’t wait to open my gym in Austin! Thanks for standing by me. If you go to sdsheriff.net you can e-mail me. Booking # 10754342 Jon Koppenhaver.

Dana:”I think it’s time Yushin Okami got a title shot”

Last night UFC President Dana White made an appearance on the Versus sports talk show, The Daily Line, to discuss this Sunday’s UFC on Versus 2 card. His comments about the middleweight contest should definitely catch the eye (or ears) of Yushin Okami as the boss made the claim for “Thunder” getting a UFC title shot somewhere down the road:
“I think it’s time this guy gets a title shot; he’s been here a long time.”
I guess that makes sense. He has been in the UFC since UFC 62 I think. Munoz will be a HUGE test for him, but I have Munoz winning this fight through ground and pound.

As James Toney talks up his UFC 118 fight with Randy Couture, he makes so many outlandish, over-the-top comments that you’re never sure how much of it he actually believes and can back up in the Octagon, how much is a delusional overestimation of his own boxing skill and underestimation of Couture’s MMA skill, and how much is pure hype that he doesn’t believe for a minute.
But whatever the case, it’s always entertaining.
In a live chat with MMAFighting.com, Toney belittled the punching prowess of MMA fighters in general and Couture’s striking in particular, and he said that while he admires Couture for having the, um, guts to fight him, he doesn’t think anyone in MMA can touch him standing up.
“He’s got the balls to fight me but there’s no MMA fighter who has the balls to trade punches with me,” Toney said of Couture. “If they do it’s suicide.”
Toney fielded several questions from readers who pointed out that Couture’s wrestling background should make it easy for him to dominate Toney in the clinch and on the ground, but Toney was having none of it.
