chuck liddellufc pictureFormer UFC Middleweight Champion Rich “Ace” Franklin stepped up to face the Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell in the headliner of UFC Fight Night 22 on April 17th. UFN 22 is set to counter Strikeforce: Nashville event that is scheduled for the exactly same date.

Thirty-five year old Rich Franklin holds an impressive 26-5 record in his illustrious MMA career, lacking a consistency in his recent performances inside The Octagon. A victory over the aging Chuck Liddell could give the “Ace” a fresh start in the UFC Light Heavyweight division, after 195 pound Catchweight loss to Vitor Belfort at UFC 103.

Fighters Only Magazine reports that Liddell’s rival TUF 11 coach Tito Ortiz had to pull out of the fight against “The Iceman”, due to personal problems that could raise questions over the future of his fighting career.

More than that, it looks like the UFC are also planning to stage the event in Nashville, what could severely damage Strikeforce’s attendance numbers at the Bridgestone Arena. The Tennessee State Athletic Commission are yet to confirm any event application from The Ultimate Fighting Championship, as the newly constructed Allen Arena seems to be the only “suitable” venue left in Nahshville
